Ducati Diavel 1260

DUCATI DIAVEL 1260 : STREET DEVIL

The Ducati Diavel has always been a handsome devil but its superbike performance married to cruiser styling has been a sticky style vs. intent contradiction ever since its launch back in 2010.While the 2019 model couldn’t be described as a radical departure from the first-gen version, the arrival of the 1262cc DVT Testastretta, along with some subtle-but-pleasing design changes do give this second-gen Diavel a bit more street-naked aggression. The new Diavel looks more upright, cleaner, and less cruiser-like. The adoption of the DVT engine means no snaking pipes up the right-hand side of the bike, a trademark design that gave the Diavel a lot of its cruiser aesthetic.Without them, it looks less fussy, and more menacing. Now, there’s a slimmer frontal area and a clear view of the less convoluted trellis frame that relies on the massive 1262 engine to do most of the hard work. The dense mass of that huge V-twin dominates the mid-section of the bike, and provides support for the tail unit and swingarm.
The neat exhaust collector and stubby slash-cut mufflers all recede from view, rather than attracting attention, and the new unfussy 14-spoke rims (10-spokes on the S) help with the cleaner street look. The rear end is still dominated by the stubby seat unit, complete with retractable pillion grab rail, and that ridiculous 240-section rear tyre that should impede cornering fun, but which experience tells us doesn’t. And with 157bhp and 95lbft torque on tap, there’s plenty of mumbo for traffic light GP addicts.
The stock Diavel gets a fully-adjustable 48mm fork and preload/rebound adjustable shock, plus Brembo M4.32 radial calipers up front, biting 320mm discs.
A Bosch 6-axis IMU means all the latest in Ducatielectronic assists, too. Cornering ABS EVO, traction, wheelie, launch and cruise control are all fitted, and its compatible with the Ducati Link App, allowing smartphone set-up for the various systems, as well as datalogging functions.
It’s also multimedia ready, with DMS available as an option. The two-way quickshifter is also an option – while both offer keyless ignition. If the stocker isn’t special enough for you, the new S model boasts everything above plus: fully adjustable 48mm Öhlins fork and fully-adjustable Öhlins shock, Brembo M50 radial calipers, Machine-finished 10-spoke wheels, a two-way quickshifter, Ducati Multimedia System, further colour options are also available.
